Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Spuur ("Spuur," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Spuur mobile app, our website at spuur.app, and related services (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
1. Information we collect
Information you provide to us:
- Account information — email address, username, password (stored securely by our authentication provider; we never see your plain password), and your date of birth.
- Profile information — display name, bio, home city/location, interests you select, and a profile photo or cover photo if you add one.
- Content you create — places you save, suggestions you submit ("request a spot"), photos and posts you share, and reactions.
- Waitlist information — if you join our early-access waitlist on spuur.app, your email address (and optionally a postal/ZIP code and the referral source).
- Communications — messages you send us (e.g. support emails).
Information collected automatically:
- Usage and interaction data — which places you view, save, and swipe on, and similar activity, used to personalize recommendations.
- Device and log data — device type, operating system, app version, and basic technical logs.
- Location data — with your permission, your device's approximate or precise location, used to show nearby places and distances. You can deny or revoke this in your device settings; the Service still works without it.
- Website data — basic, privacy-friendly analytics on spuur.app.
Information from third parties:
- If you choose to sign in with Apple or Google in the future, we receive basic account information from that provider (such as name and email) per your settings with them.
- App stores (Apple App Store, Google Play) provide limited download and purchase information.
2. How we use information
We use information to:
- Create and manage your account and profile;
- Provide core features (discovery, saving, group planning, social posts);
- Personalize recommendations based on your interests and activity;
- Show nearby places and distances (with location permission);
- Communicate with you about the Service, including waitlist and product updates;
- Maintain safety and security, prevent abuse, and enforce our Terms;
- Comply with legal obligations.
3. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:
- With service providers that operate the Service on our behalf, under contract, including: Supabase (database, authentication, file storage); Cloudflare (website hosting, DNS, email routing); Resend (transactional and notification emails); Apple / Google (app distribution, and map/directions links you open); Open-Meteo (weather data — no personal information is sent); and, if/when enabled, analytics, crash-reporting, and AI features used to power planning tools (only the data needed to provide them).
- For legal reasons — to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, or protect rights, safety, and security.
- In a business transfer — in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice as required by law.
- With your consent or at your direction.
4. Other users and public content
Your username, display name, profile photo, and content you post (such as photos shared to the community feed) may be visible to other users. Please don't share anything you wouldn't want others to see. We provide tools to report and block content and users.
5. Your choices and rights
- Access and update — edit your profile in the app.
- Delete your account — you can permanently delete your account and associated data from within the app; this is irreversible.
- Location — control location access in your device settings.
- Marketing emails — unsubscribe using the link in our emails or by contacting us; you may still receive essential service messages.
- Depending on where you live (e.g. California, EU/UK), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or port your information, or to object to certain processing. To exercise these, contact hello@spuur.app.
6. Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information, except where retention is required by law.
7. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards (including row-level access controls and encryption in transit) to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children's privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app is rated for older users due to some content. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us information, contact hello@spuur.app and we will delete it.
9. International users
The Service is operated in the United States. If you access it from elsewhere, you understand your information will be processed in the United States.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and, for material changes, provide additional notice.
